PATIENT HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE (PHQ-9)


The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) is a 9-items self-reported measure which was developed in 2001 to measure the severity of depression. A higher score indicates a higher level of depression while a lower score indicates a lower level of depression.

Each item is scored on a 4-point Likert scale (0 to 3). The response format and numerical values are the following: (0) Not at all, (1) Several days, (2) More than half the days or (3) Nearly every day. The final score is obtained by adding up the values of the different items and can range from 0 to 27.
